The ethos of The Highlanders should be based on the traditions of its forebears and the core values of selfless commitment, courage, self discipline and respect for others. The heritage of the Regiment is key to its ethos, so its traditions, property, sport and Highland music  are of particular importance. The foundation of the Regiment is its serving and retired members and their families who must be at the very heart of Regimental activity.  

The Endstate is:

"A fully manned and integrated Regiment, closely involved with its antecedents and the community it recruits from, which draws on its heritage and at the same time is appealing to the youth of today".
